BIOGRAPHY

Ivan Rivas (born November 4, 1972 in Cd. Valles, San Luis Potosi, Mexico) is a civil engineer specialized in water resources.

He attended University of San Luis Potosi in Mexico, where he graduated in 1995 with a degree in Civil Engineering (with Honors). In 2000 he received a Master of Engineering (Hydraulics) from National University of Mexico (UNAM). He worked as a hydraulic engineer in the Mexican Water Institute of Technology (IMTA) in Jiutepec, Morelos, from 1998 to 2001. In 2004 he earned a Master of Science (Water Resources) from Colorado State University. During 2007, Rivas developed several drainage studies for land development for Bulloch Brothers Engineering in Mesquite, Nevada. In 2008, Ivan worked for PBSJ in Beltsville, Maryland, doing GIS floodplain mapping for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) inside of the National Flood Insurance Program. Former CSU triathlete and current USA Triathlon member. 

PhD Dissertation: “Design and Implementation of Hydrologic Unit Watersheds for Stormwater Modeling in Urban Areas” Objective: calibrate rainfall-runoff models using an optimization MCDA approach to the flow-duration curve in highly urbanized basins. The models coupled GIS with EPA-SWMM.
